Local Competition for Veteran Artwork

The Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks (VHSO) in Fayetteville is hosting an artwork reception this afternoon.

VA medical facilities, like VHSO, use the creative arts as one form of rehabilitative treatment for Veterans. Across the country each year, Veterans enrolled at VA health care facilities compete in their local creative arts competition. First place winners will go on to compete at the national level.

The competition includes 51 categories in the visual arts division this year that range from oil painting to leather-work to paint-by-number kits. There are additional categories in the performing arts pertaining to all aspects of music, dance, drama and creative writing. Hundreds of pieces of artwork have been submitted.

Today’s reception begins at 1:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fayetteville VA Medical Center.

Everyone is welcome to come out and see the artwork.
